Four candidates have put their hands up to run in the Groom federal by-election on November 28.

The Liberal National Party's Garth Hamilton is widely expected to win the southern Queensland seat, which is being vacated by former minister John McVeigh.

Labor's candidate is lawyer Chris Meibusch, while Craig Farquharson will represent the Liberal Democrats and Sandra Jephcote is standing for Sustainable Australia.

Ms Jephcote took the top spot on the ballot paper.

Early voting in the by-election starts on Wednesday.
