Former Perth schoolboy charged with family's triple axe murder accuses 'laughing masked intruder'

A former Perth schoolboy accused of a triple axe murder in South Africa has pleaded not guilty.

Henri van Breda, 22, is accused of using an axe to murder his parents and brother while attempting to kill his young sister Marli in their home just outside of Cape Town two years ago.

However, van Breda’s lawyer told Cape Town’s High Court on Monday that the murders were carried out by a masked intruder who laughed as he dealt the fatal blows.

The court heard the former Scotch College schoolboy wrestled with the intruder and got the axe off him but he then pulled out a knife and stabbed van Breda in the shoulder.

Van Breda says he chased the man out of the house before he blacked out.

Marli van Breda managed to survive the attack despite having her throat cut, but she has amnesia and can’t remember what happened.

There is still a chance Marli van Breda could be called to testify against her brother, who says he is innocent and has nothing to hide.
