Former Miss Teen Universe, 20, dies while on holiday with family


A former Miss Teen Universe has died aged 20 after suffering from a heart attack.

Dutch model Lotte van der Zee died on Wednesday night while on vacation in Austria.

Her parents Bert van der Zee and Eugeniek van het Hul informed her Instagram followers on February 23 their daughter had gone into “sudden cardiac arrest”.

“She was helped to the nearest hospital where she got into a coma and is since then kept a sleep under intensive supervision of the doctors in order to monitor her health,” her parents wrote.

“Thank you in advance for the loving words about our daughter.”

The parents also thanked her followers for their “love and positivity” during the times “when she needs it most”. She was transported to a hospital in Munich, Germany.

In a post on Friday, Ms van der Zee’s parents described her as their “pearl” and informed followers of her death.

“It is super unreal that our dear Lotte is no longer here,” they wrote.

“Our hearts are broken”.

The model’s followers on Instagram wrote of their heartbreak in learning she had died.

“RIP sweet angel,” one woman wrote.

One man described her death as a “tragic loss”.

Ms van der Zee, who was from Enschede in the eastern Netherlands, won Miss Teen Universe in 2017.

The 20-year-old had been out with friends the night before she went into cardiac arrest, Dutch newspaper De Limburger reported.

Ms van der Zee was on a birthday ski trip with her family at the time.

Her parents plan to have tests done to determine what brought on the sudden heart attack.
