Pilot caught on video punching co-worker after break up

Dramatic footage has emerged showing the moment a pilot and a female colleague come to blows on a jet bridge before a flight.

The disturbing altercation occurred at Denver Airport in the US state of Colorado last month and the short clip shows the woman approach the male pilot, engaging in an argument before slapping him in the face.

He retaliates by punching her in the ribs and striking her face as she cowers from the blows.

The clip, now at the centre of a police investigation, was leaked to website FlyerTalk.

The two involved have been identified by ABC News as 36-year-old Republic Airways pilot William Thomas and 29-year-old Marisha Sporer.

They were both arrested and charged with assault.

A probable cause statement obtained by ABC News indicates Thomas and Sporer were previously involved in an intimate relationship. Their relationship allegedly broke down when Sporer was angered by the contents of Thomas’ phone prior to the scheduled flight.

After Thomas headed to the cockpit, Sporer followed and the altercation ensued.

Republic Airways confirmed both employees had been dismissed following the incident.

The airline said there was nobody on board the plane at the time and the flight was eventually delayed and rescheduled.

Thomas and Sporer will face court next week.
