Fly fisher rescued after leg trapped in rocks

A competitive fly fisher has been rescued from Tasmania's rugged bushlands after becoming trapped between rocks.

Tasmania Police say the 63-year-old woman was walking up the Meander Valley River, near Jackey's Marsh, while taking part in a competition when her leg became stuck between a rock.

She was trapped for two hours as others attempted to extricate her limb, before police were notified.

Emergency crews including Ambulance Victoria, the Tasmanian Fire Service and police were eventually able to free the woman and move her across the river on a stretcher.

She was then winched to safety and taken to the Launceston General Hospital for further medical treatment.

Her injuries are not considered serious.
