A floatplane completed an emergency landing on a roadway near Fort Simpson, N.W.T. on Thursday afternoon, according to fire chief Tyler Pilling.

Pilling said the floatplane completed an unscheduled landing on Highway 1 near Martin River Bridge, about 15 kilometres from Fort Simpson, at approximately 1 p.m. on Thursday.

There were no injuries or fatalities during the landing, and everyone involved is now safe, Pilling said.

"Everyone's fine, they're just working on getting the road cleared now," Pilling said.

Pilling said he did not know what route the plane was travelling.

He also said he could not say how many people were on board due to privacy reasons.

Police and EMS in Fort Simpson also responded at the scene, according to N.W.T. RCMP spokesperson Cst. Josh Seaward.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating, Seaward said.
