Flights cancelled as fog blankets city

Thick fog has blanketed Melbourne, causing 29 incoming and outgoing flights to be cancelled.

A Melbourne airport spokesperson told NewsWire the fog was not impacting all airlines.

However, 29 flights have so far been cancelled, including 13 from Virgin Australia, nine from Jetstar and seven Qantas flights.

While it is not known when the fog will lift, the airport advises travellers to check with their airline for up-to-date details.

It’s understood the delays may extend into the afternoon when it is declared safe to travel.
