A pedestrian who allegedly attempted to evade police was struck by an unmarked cop car as he made his getaway before being tasered when he fought officers.

Officers approached the 38-year-old man on a North Rockhampton street about 10am on Tuesday when he fled onto the road and into the path of an unmarked cop car, police say.

He is alleged to have struggled violently with police while on the ground before he was struck with a Taser and taken into custody.

The West Rockhampton man sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

He has been charged with assaulting a police officer and is due to face Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 6.

The Ethical Standards Command is overseeing an investigation into the incident.
