Work to fix 'nightmare' roundabout finishes

Work to fix a water leak on a "nightmare" roundabout has been completed, Gloucestershire County Council has said.

One section of the Kings Meadow Roundabout in Cirencester, known locally as Tesco roundabout, was closed in March to investigate water coming from its centre.

In May, council officials estimated the roadworks would be finished by mid-June.

But the authority confirmed on Friday the works have now been completed and the road has been fully re-opened.

Motorists had previously complained that as a result of the partial closure, travelling around town had become a "nightmare", especially at rush hour.

Joe Harris, leader of Cotswold District Council, said: "A major utility company decided to undertake works in the town centre, resulting in an excruciatingly long journey through the town that took me over an hour."

A Gloucestershire Council spokesperson confirmed "construction works" have been completed.

"The crew thank everyone for their patience and support during this time," they added.
