Six prisoners taken to hospital after suspected drug overdose

Six inmates at a Queensland prison have been taken to hospital following a suspected drug overdose.

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) has confirmed to Yahoo News Australia that several prisoners at Capricornia Correctional Centre had “fallen ill” and is believed to be caused by drug consumption.

Queensland Ambulance were called to the facility at Etna Creek, north of Rockhampton, shortly before 1.00pm.

"Initial indications are that the symptoms may be related to drug ingestion, however we are working with Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Health and Queensland Police Service to establish the cause of the incident," the QCS spokesperson said.
