Powerball jackpots to $100 million for the first time this year

An Aussie could take home a whopping $100 million in next Thursday's Powerball draw, making them the nation's second ever biggest lottery winner.

It is only the fourth time in Powerball history that a jackpot has climbed this high.

"As this is the largest lottery jackpot [of any kind] we’ve seen in Australia since February this year, we’re expecting it to be busy in-store and online in the lead-up to next Thursday’s draw,” The Lott spokesperson James Eddy said.

“We’re sure most Powerball players are already dreaming about what they’d do if they won a slice of this massive jackpot next week.

"The holiday of a lifetime, immediate retirement, your perfect home and all your other dreams could be a reality."

Millions of Aussies expected to buy Powerball tickets

It is estimated that up to half of Australian adults will buy an entry for the upcoming draw.

Mr Eddy said there have been more Powerball division one wins so far in 2022 than there were during 2019, 2020 or 2021.

The $100m jackpot comes after there was no division one winner in last night's jackpot. There were a total of 1,693,915 prizes worth more than $31.9 million won in divisions two to nine.

Powerball players are encouraged to register with a player card or an online account so that they know straight away if they win a prize.

“If you win the jackpot, you’ll want to know immediately. By registering your entry, we’ll be able to reach out to you straight after the draw to confirm the life-changing news,” Mr Eddy said.

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1378 were 31, 35, 16, 13, 25, 18, 1 and the Powerball number was 2.
