Firefighters working to contain bushfire burning near Sydney homes

Firefighting crews are desperately working to stop an out-of-control fire from burning through homes in Sydney’s southwest.

More than 20 Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were battling to contain the bushfire near homes in Revesby Heights, about 23 kilometres from Sydney, on Thursday afternoon.

“While no homes are under immediate threat, Fire and Rescue NSW crews from multiple stations in the area are working to extinguish the fire quickly in the event that winds increase,” FRNSW said.

“FRNSW has requested air support from the NSW Rural Fire Service as a precaution to protect homes in the area.”

Footage from above the blaze shows a significant amount of smoke merely metres from the back of several properties.

Four firefighting trucks reportedly responded to the fire, which broke out just before 1.30pm.
