Firefighters rescue kitten stuck in precarious position after fireworks

A kitten frightened by fireworks ended up stuck between a deck and hard place after trying to escape through a small hole in a backyard deck.

Local fire fighters at Counties Manukau Fire Area in New Zealand were called on to help the little guy who managed to get his head caught in a hole designed for an umbrella.

“After the fireworks madness had started to slow down, Papatoetoe Blue Watch were called to an animal rescue,” the team at Counties Manukau Fire posted on Facebook on Tuesday.

Accompanying the post were two images, one with a kitten poking through wood panelling, and the aftermath of the rescue that showed just how small the hole was that the animal managed to squeeze its head through.

“This wee fella had managed to get his head stuck in an ‘umbrella hole’ in the deck,” the post continued.

The team are trained to put out fires but that didn’t stop them from giving the rescue their best shot.

“This type of rescue is not something that is taught on any courses or in any manuals but the crew used their collective practical ‘know how’ to free him without injury!” the post read.

People responded with plenty of cat puns congratulating the fire fighters on their hard work.

“Pawfect result team,” one person wrote.

“A purrfect job to end a busy night, well done,” another said.

The team were also praised for being able to free the kitten while keeping the deck intact

“Love it..skills without wrecking the deck,” a user wrote.

The fire fighters at Counties Manukau Fire Area are no strangers to rescuing animals, in the past they have documented rescue missions involving a seagull stuck in a security camera and a chicken in a ute crash. They’ve even helped penguins to waddle freely with an impromptu roadside manicure.
