Firefighters rescue dog trapped in abandoned well

A dog has been rescued after becoming trapped in a nine-metre well.

Video shared to the Texas-based Waco Fire Department’s Twitter account shows the rescue of the pup on Sunday.

Hazel, a one-year-old dog, was winched from the well. Ten firefighters took part in the dog’s rescue.

The pup was reunited with her owner at the scene.

Waco Fire Suppression Lieutenant Billy Eary told news station KXXV the well had been abandoned and the lid on top of it had deteriorated.

He added while he was thankful a child hadn’t fallen down the old well it was still important for the fire department to save Hazel.

“It doesn’t matter what life it is. Our job is to help the citizens in any way we can,” he said.

Last month, a loyal but possibly overprotective pooch named Matyas was filmed pulling his owner’s granddaughter to safety at a French beach believing the girl was drowning.

She briefly went under a small wave and otherwise appeared fine, but the big pooch didn’t want to take any chances.

In June, an exhausted 55-kilogram Great Pyrenees needed to be carried down a mountain in Colorado.

Kato, due to his sheer size, needed to be carried down on a stretcher by the local fire department.
