A suspicious fire has broken out at a popular nightclub on Chapel Street in Melbourne. Emergency services were called to LUX nightclub on Chapel Street in South Yarra about 1.45 Thursday morning, after several reports of a fire breaking out.

It took 50 firefighters more than an hour to tackle the blaze, which broke out on the second floor of the building and was declared under control about 3.48am.

NewsWire understands there was no one inside the building at the time of the fire.

Police have deemed the fire as suspicious.

Chapel Street has been closed off to traffic in both directions due while crews work on rhe scene.

“Chapel Street is expected to remain closed until midmorning as there are structural issues with the fire-affected building,” a statement from Fire Rescue Victoria said.

No injuries have been reported.

“A crime scene guard is in place and an arson chemist will attend the scene later today,” said a spokesperson for Victoria Police.

A crime scene has been established, and police will nvestigate whether the incident is linked to any other recent incidents.
