Fifty pilot whales wash up, die in Iceland

Fifty pilot whales have washed up and died on the northwestern coast of Iceland, local media report.

None of the animals could be rescued, Icelandic broadcaster RUV said.

The animals are thought to have lost orientation before washing up.

Pilot whales are among the largest of oceanic dolphins.

Only the orca is larger.
