A elderly woman has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after being struck by a car in Sydney's northwest, police say.

Paramedics were called to Carlingford at 7.40am on Wednesday after the 76-year-old was hit at the intersection of Pennant Hills Road and Westminster Avenue.

The male driver, in his 40s, was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory police alcohol and drug tests.
