Female teacher charged with raping 15-year-old student

A female high school teacher has been charged with raping a 15-year-old student.

Kendall Burk, 23, a biology teacher at Grant County High School in Kentucky, US began a relationship with the boy which turned sexual over the summer, police say.

Ms Burk was charged with four counts of rape and four counts of sodomy, which by state law, can mean oral sex, US television station WKRC reported.

The alleged offences came to light when a student approached a teacher about the matter. It was then passed onto police following a brief internal investigation.

“Our deputies, at that point, once they were alerted, interviewed some other students who had made the allegations and worked backwards, interviewing the victim as well as the teacher,” Grant County Sheriff Brian Mains said.

Several students spoke with WKRC, revealing Ms Burk was a popular teacher at the school but believed the alleged behaviour was wrong.

“He is a minor and she’s 23 years old and she’s a teacher. It definitely shouldn’t have been happening,” one student said.

The school released a letter to parents informing them of the matter.

Burk has been dismissed from her role as a teacher at the school.

She is due in court on Monday.
