'I felt sick': Mum's horror as man accused of filming up daughter's skirt

The mother of a little girl who was allegedly the victim of an upskirting incident on the Gold Coast says she feels ‘sick’ that she wasn’t able to protect her daughter.

A man was allegedly caught filming up the little girl’s skirt at a busy Gold Coast department store.

He was confronted by suspicious staff at the Robina Big W, who followed the man and filmed him.

“He said, ‘he was filming up your daughter’s dress’ and I was just like… ‘what?'” the child’s mother told 7News.

A trolley had blocked the mother’s view of what was allegedly unfolding, but not the worker who confronted the man and followed him with two colleagues.

“Can you get security? I’ll just follow him until he stops,” the worker can be heard saying in the video.

But the man got away. The alleged incident happened two weeks ago and he hasn’t been found.

“I felt sick. I felt that I’d failed my daughter because I hadn’t, you know, I hadn’t stopped him,” the girl’s mother said.

The law prevents 7News from identifying the man, but the iPhone video was given to police that day.

“This guy should’ve been apprehended on the day… the staffers did above and beyond what they were called to do,” the mother said.

A formal complaint has been made to police.
