Fears serial rapist living 'within 100 metres' of childcare centre and schools

There are fears serial rapist Robert John Fardon is living within 100 metres of a childcare centre and close to a school in suburban Brisbane.

Queensland’s Police Commissioner won’t confirm the convicted pedophile’s exact location but has assured the community that Fardon is under strict supervision.

It’s thought that Fardon may be living in Salisbury, approximately nine kilometres south of the CBD, near local schools.

“There is a lot of young families in the area and they’ve got every right to be concerned about him being here,” one local resident told Seven News.

“An ex-partner of mine was abused when she was a kid so it hits home a bit,” another person said.

“There’s a lot of childcare centres nearby and it’s not great.”

Residents say Fardon has been living near a childcare centre and popular cafe, and less than a kilometre from Salisbury State School.

However Police Commissioner Ian Stewart would not confirm the serial rapist’s whereabouts.

“Wherever he is, I can assure you we are aware of that, that we are actually in touch with Mr Fardon as well, and we will do everything we can to keep the community safe,” he said.

Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington said she was “disgusted” the man was “let free on our streets without being monitored”.
