Young dad shot dead outside hospital after visiting newborn twins

Two weeks after his twins were born, 20-year old father Tyrese Garvin, has died in the same Kentucky hospital.

Mr Garvin was leaving University of Louisville Hospital after visiting his one-week-old twins, when he was shot multiple times on June 23, according to Wave 3 News.

The family made the call to turn off life support earlier in the week. Mr Garvin’s mother took the newborn twins from the maternity ward to be with their father who was in intensive care at the time.

The twins were born premature and were just a week old when their father died.

On Friday, June 28, at around 3pm, Mr Garvin was pronounced dead after life support had been switched off.

Police have arrested three teenagers aged between 14 to 17, who they believe shot Mr Garvin. The attack is believed to be random. In the past month, a spree of shootings in the Louisville area have left 12 dead and many more injured, the Courier Journal reported.

Local activist Christopher 2X, who has been speaking to the media on behalf of the family, was surrounded by members of “Balling for a Cause” as he addressed crowds, saying the recent string of shootings should be treated as a health crisis.

In the wake of his death, community members are trying to raise money for the family to cover funeral costs and medical expenses.

“Tyrese was a beautiful soul who would do anything in the world to help someone,” a GoFundMe page raising money for Mr Garvin’s family reads.

“Tyrese would always make sure others were taken care of before he took care of himself.

“He was selfless, respectful, honest, and would look you in the eye with a firm hand shake while calling you ma'am or sir.”

Over 650 people have donated to the GoFundMe page, and almost $25,000 has already been raised.
