'My daddy's dead': Father killed in freak accident on driveway

The family of a 31-year-old man is in mourning after he was killed in a freak accident while changing his car tyre.

Drew Rinner, from the US state of Ohio, was changing a tyre on his car on Sunday afternoon (local time) when the vehicle fell on top of him, killing him instantly.

He leaves behind two sons —aged four and one — and his wife Melissa, who is 31 weeks pregnant with their third child.

"I didn't hear anything. I was in the kitchen and I kept coming to check on him and when I did I saw what had happened and my four-year-old said, 'My daddy's dead'," Ms Rinner told local station WLWT5.

"Right away, I ran to get the neighbours. I called 911. It was very traumatic," she said, adding she's devastated he'll never get to meet their third child.

'Best dad and husband in the world'

Ms Rinner is now faced with raising her three children alone, saying she feels lost without the support of her husband.

"Today is the worst and most difficult day of my life," Ms Rinner wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.

"The man I love more than anything has passed away after a tragic accident.

"He was my whole heart and life. The best dad and husband in the world. I don’t have many words right now.

"I love you more than anything Drew Rinner and I’ll love you forever."

According to a GoFundMe page created by the grieving widow's mother, Mr Rinner was the sole breadwinner of the family with his wife's high risk pregnancy leaving her unable to work.

"He was one of the kindest, gentlest, and most loyal people I have ever known," the description in the GoFundMe read.

"He was the best dad ever and he was an amazing husband to my daughter."

The GoFundMe has raised $26,597 so far ($19,215USD).
