A father has drowned in front of his family in rough surf on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
Police say the man was swimming with his wife and two daughters when they got caught in a rip off Coolum Beach around 4.30pm (AEST).

Beachgoers pulled the 40-year-old woman and two children out of the water but the man was found unconscious a short time later.
Paramedics rushed to the scene but the man could not be saved.
A woman who rescued the children was treated for shock.
