Farmer Wants a Wife is returning to Aussie screens this year for the first time since March 2016 and by the looks of the latest promo, the reality show is aiming to fill a need for a more wholesome reality dating series.

Clearly aiming to boast about the program’s past success, the new advertisement makes sure to mention the nine successful marriages and 20 Aussie babies that have come from the series previously.

“The most beautiful love stories have been born from the ONLY show that proves the power of love,” the voice-over continues in the clip, which has also been shared on social media.

Farmer Wants a Wife originally aired in 2007 and was one of the original dating shows in Australia before it ended in March 2016.

Natalie Gruzlewski, who hosted the show from 2007 to 2012, is returning as host for the newest season.

It seems like a welcome change from the drama that features highly on the current crop of popular dating series including Married at First Sight, The Bachelor and Bachelorette, and Love Island.

However, some may remember that while Farmer Wants a Wife portrays a relatively drama-free vibe on our screens, the series itself was engulfed in off-screen drama just this month, after 2016 star Matt Goyder faced court on child exploitation offences.

Small success rate on Married at First Sight

While it is dominating the airwaves and the TV ratings for Channel Nine, Married at First Sight hasn’t had the best success in terms of couples from the show remaining together long-term.

Since the show's inception in 2015, we've seen just three couples survive post show.

Most recently, Cam and Jules from last year’s season of MAFS decided to tie the knot in real life.

Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli are also still together and by all accounts going strong.

Season two stars Erin Bateman and Bryce Mohr were the only surviving couple for a long time and are still together, they even bought a house together just this year.

And While Zoe Hendrix and Alex Garner from season one gave it a pretty good nudge and even welcomed their first child, daughter Harper-Rose in November 2016, they eventually called it quits in April 2018.

Six Bachelor couples still going strong

Looking at Channel Ten’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette series, they’ve had better success with a handful of couples tying the knot and welcoming children after meeting on the dating show.

Tim Robard and Anna Heinrich from Australia’s first season of The Bachelor are still going strong, having tied the knot in 2018.

Sam Wood and Snezana also got married after meeting on the show, and have since welcomed two babies into their now family of five.

Laura and Matty J are engaged and welcomed their first child Marlie-Mae Rose Johnson in June 2019, while couples Georgia Love and Lee, Angie Kent and Carlin, and Ali Oejten and Taite are also still together.

Channel Nine introduced Love Island to Australia in 2018, but from both seasons so far only two couples are still together. Anna and Josh from season two and Amelia and Josh from season 1.
