Fantasy Football: Early Week 5 waiver wire pickups

Damien Williams, RB, Chicago Bears (7 percent rostered)

It's never fun to suggest a waiver wire pickup as a result of a player's injury, yet here we are. David Montgomery was in the midst of a monster Week 4 against the Detroit Lions, compiling 23 rushes for 106 yards and two touchdowns. He was the early engine that fueled the Bears' offense to a quick 14-0 lead.

Unfortunately, Montgomery suffered what initially looked like a devastating injury that saw him in serious pain on the ground for some time. He was able to be helped off the ground and leaned on a trainer while limping on the sideline before eventually being ruled out with a knee injury.

Damien Williams entered the game as the next man up and ran very well in Montgomery's stead. Williams rushed for 55 yards on eight carries and a touchdown and caught both of his targets for 15 yards. If Montgomery is forced to miss time, Williams is a clear add, assuming he himself is able to suit in Week 5. Williams suffered a quad injury late in the game, at which point Khalil Herbert earned a few carries. The Bears will take on the Raiders and Packers the next two weeks, two defenses that can be run on, so monitor the injury situations in this backfield closely.

Dawson Knox, TE, Buffalo Bills (46 percent rostered)

Consider this your last call on Dawson Knox, who seems to have fully emerged as a true weapon in the Bills' powerful pass game. Knox now has four touchdowns in his last three games, but perhaps more importantly, Knox has seen his targets increase from three to five to eight in those games.

We always have to be on the lookout for an emerging tight end to add off waivers, but what makes Knox intriguing is he's shown potential in the past and he plays as part of a high-level, high-volume passing offense. Add him if he's available in your leagues.
