  • Erin Napier shared a photo of a doorframe in her home.

  • She revealed that it’s inspired by her grandmother’s pantry.

  • Now, fans are relating and sharing family relics of their own.

In yet another bout of celebrities-that-are-just-like-us, Erin Napier took to Instagram to share the story behind a door in her home.

“This door facing was inspired by my grandmother’s pantry door that saved the heights of me, my brother and cousin @jobforjim,” she captioned a photo of a door in her home that’s now etched with her daughter Helen’s height over the years. “It even made it into The Lantern House, my children’s book with @adamtrest.”

But her post wasn’t just a chance to share her own story — she wanted to hear other peoples’, too. “What family stories like this do your houses keep?” she asked her followers. “I’m so curious.”

As always, her fans were quick to reply. “Our height markings were on a piece of wallpaper,” one Instagram user wrote. “When the new owners remodeled, they saved that piece of wallpaper for us. Our entire family was on it including my mom. She died when I was 12. That strip of wallpaper is everything!”

“I bought my house 7 years ago,” another user commented. “The back of the laundry room door has pencil height marks from the kids that lived here before. I've been asked why I don't replace the door or paint it. No way! Someday those kids may wonder about the door. It will remain just as they left it.”

“We had our boy’s height measurements on a door in our former home,” someone wrote. “When we built our new home a few years ago, we took that door with us and had it installed in our new home. Just couldn’t leave it behind. They are now 25 and 30.”

“My daughter moved into Winston Groome’s house (author of Forrest Gump),” someone else revealed. “The door jam has his height, his daughters height as well as the sons of the others who lived in the house. Such a great story It will never be painted.”

Not all of the memories centered on doors, though.

“We visited my grandparents every Saturday evening, and before we would leave I would always wait on my ‘baggie,’ ” one fan shared. “It was an ordinary brown paper lunch bag that would have different treats each week. It would usually include fruit, raisins or an apple , some candy and maybe some crayons. But , it was so special to me that my grandma picked out special treats just for me.”

“We planted tiny oak saplings in the yard of our new house in 1964,” another person wrote. “Through the years we have been able to go back after the house was sold to get acorns from the oaks and grow them. I have a tree in my current yard that is a descendant from the original oak. I doubt I’ll ever get to sit in the shade from it, but it is nice to know it is there.”
