Family's heartwarming discovery after being forced to leave pet behind during devastating wild fire
A family made a heartwarming discovery after they were forced to leave their pet behind as devastating wild fires swept through northern California.
As the family fled their property during the Carr Fires west of Redding, the father warned his daughter that their pet fish, named Grant, probably hadn’t survived.
But when they got home, they received a pleasant surprise. Not only was their house still standing, but Grant the fish was alive and well-fed.
As they battled the blaze, Californian firefighters and the Corning Police Department had taken time to feed the fish.
“Fed your fish a few sprinkles. Sorry if we weren’t supposed to,” firefighters from Cal Fire Engine 1489 said in a hand-written note left next to Grant’s fish bowl.
Below this message was another hand written note from police officers.
“Fed your fish on 8-1-2018 at 10:33 am…Good luck,” wrote members of the Corning Police Department.
The uplifting photographs were tweeted by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
“After a father informed his daughter that her fish was likely dead, both were in for quite a shock when they returned home to a well-fed fish!” the Fire Department tweeted.
“Thanks CAL FIRE Engine 1489 & Corning Police Dept. for ensuring Grant was fed while his owners were evacuated due to the #CarrFire.”
