Family of William and Harry’s Beloved Nanny Among Dead in New Orleans
King Charles has been left “deeply saddened” after the stepson of Tiggy Legge-Bourke, Prince William and Prince Harry’s beloved childhood nanny, was named as one of the 14 people killed in the New Orleans terror attack.
Edward Pettifer, 31, died when a pick-up truck rammed into crowds gathered on Bourbon Street in the heart of New Orleans on New Year’s Day. Edward’s father married Tiggy after splitting with Edward’s mother, although Tiggy was already a godmother to Edward.
Tiggy has remained close to both Harry and William, whom she cared for from 1993 until 1999.
In his memoir, Spare, Harry described Tiggy as a “surrogate mum.” He also said that she was one of the few people to directly “chastise me for Oprah,” referring to the controversial interview he and Meghan Markle did with Oprah Winfrey in which they claimed Meghan was subjected to prejudiced questioning about her then-unborn babies’ likely skin color. The royals alleged to have expressed “concerns” were later revealed to be King Charles and Kate, an issue that lies at the heart of William’s refusal to reconcile with his brother.
William and Harry are also both godfathers to Tiggy’s children, who are Edward’s half-siblings.
In a statement issued from the official Prince and Princess of Wales X account, William shared his condolences.
“Catherine and I have been shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Pettifer. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Pettifer family and all those innocent people who have been tragically impacted by this horrific attack,” he wrote, signing off with “W.”

Harry has yet to comment.
Pettifer’s family has appealed for privacy, though given the feuding brothers’ close connections to the family, it seems inevitable there will be speculation as to whether they will attend any funeral or memorial for Edward.
An official source told the Daily Beast that King Charles was “deeply saddened” by the news, and has shared private condolences with Edward’s family.
Meghan McCain criticized Meghan Markle as “utterly tone deaf to the moment” for launching her Instagram account promoting a trailer for her new cooking show in the hours after the horrific attack, but few could have predicted her husband would turn out to have such a close connection to one of the victims.
