Family of three in hospital after everyday item sparks house fire

A computer charger has been blamed for sparking a house fire in Melbourne’s west that left a family of three in hospital.

As a laptop was left on a bed powering up, its charger went up in flames and ignited the bedding, just before 11am Sunday.

A CFA spokesperson said fire crews were called to the Tarneit house fire at 10.54am.

Unaware his partner and child had already safely escaped from the home, a father tried to get into the burning room with a garden hose.

He and the woman suffered smoke inhalation and were hospitalised.

Their child was not physically hurt, but was taken to hospital with her parents as a precaution.
