Family’s heartbreak after shocking crash
The family of a grandmother killed in a crash involving an allegedly stolen car north of Brisbane has paid tribute to the “much-loved” woman.
Rosemary Franzidis, 69, died when her car was allegedly struck by a stolen car driven by a 16-year-old boy on Dohles Rocks Rd at Murrumba Downs about 9.45am on Thursday.
Ms Franzidis was driving her sedan when the allegedly stolen car slammed into her vehicle in Griffin and a stationary police car.
Queensland Police allege the 16-year-old boy had hijacked a car at gunpoint from another woman moments before the crash.
Police had set up cordons and patrols across the Moreton Bay area in an attempt to find the allegedly stolen Audi.
Ms Franzidis died at the scene, while two police officers were also hospitalised for further treatment.
In a statement, Ms Franzidis’ family said she would be truly missed by those who loved her.
“Rosemary Franzidis was a much-loved wife, mother and grandmother, who cherished her family more than anything in the world,” her family said in a statement.
“A woman of strong faith, she had many church friends who will remember her fondly.
“Everybody who met Rose felt her love, kindness and generosity.”
“She will be extremely missed by friends and family in South Africa, United Kingdom, Australia and the USA.”
Ms Franzidis is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, three daughters, and “three beautiful grandchildren”.
Her family has since requested privacy.
The 16-year-old has been charged with manslaughter and will next appear before Brisbane Children’s Court on December 12.
