Family dog mauls toddler in Sydney home

A toddler has been attacked by a dog in southwest Sydney.

Police say the 23-month-old boy was bitten in the lounge room of a home on Hermitage Crescent in Cartwright at about 7.30pm on Monday.

The toddler suffered significant wounds to the left side of his face.

The mother took the boy to seek medical treatment and police secured the family dog before council rangers took it away.

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command and local council were notified and commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
