Eye witnesses recount Sydney axe attack

A woman accused of an horrific axe attack at a convenience store has put her head in her hands, with dramatic footage of the ordeal played in a Sydney court.

Evie Amati, 26, has pleaded not guilty to wounding with intent to murder, her counsel arguing she was suffering from mental illness at the time of the 2017 attack.

Footage of the assault was played to her NSW District Court trial on Tuesday, while eye witnesses also gave evidence.

Amati is seen to swing the axe with both hands, bringing it down on her victim before he falls to the ground.

The trial is continuing before Judge Mark Williams.
