A 53-year-old man accused of kidnapping a 12-year-old boy for ransom in Queensland before taking him across the border has faced a northern NSW court.
The boy, who was snatched outside his Gold Coast home on Friday afternoon, has been reunited with his family, who police say were involved in a financial dispute with the abductor.
Officers found the boy in Grafton more than 200 kilometres south from his home less than 24 hours later following a tip-off from a member of the public.
He was in a car with 53-year-old Zhen Jie Zhang.
Zhang faced Grafton Local Court on Monday, where magistrate Karen Stafford approved his extradition to Queensland.
He is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The alleged kidnapper had allegedly fallen out with the boy's family over "substantial" personal loans which prompted the extortion attempt.
It's believed the 53-year-old will be formally charged with kidnapping for ransom.
