A former elite Melbourne private school teacher will defend child sexual abuse charges against him.

Former St Kevin's College teacher Michael Junkovic is charged with two counts of intentionally sexually touching a child under the age of 16 and under his supervision at Toorak in 2017.

Junkovic, 41, appeared in a virtual sitting of Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Lawyer Tim Schocker said Junkovic would be pleading not guilty.

"My client denies committing the conduct alleged," the lawyer said.

Junkovic remains on bail and is due back in court for a two-day contested hearing beginning on September 13.

His teaching registration is suspended.
