Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne's rape trial is set to begin next week, more than two years since his arrest.
Newcastle District Court Judge Roy Ellis said on Thursday a jury was expected to be empanelled on Monday for Hayne's trial.
The trial had originally been due to start in May but was postponed because of COVID-19.
Defence lawyer Penny Musgrave, who appeared via audiovisual link from Sydney, told the court Hayne was with her in her office for the brief hearing. They could not be seen on screen in court because of technical issues.
Hayne, 32, has pleaded not guilty to two charges of aggravated sexual assault involving a woman in NSW's Hunter Valley on September 30, 2018.
