Ex-LTA manager charged under OSA for retaining documents in personal laptop

SINGAPORE — A former Land Transport Authority (LTA) official was charged under the Official Secrets Act on Tuesday (7 December) for retaining company documents on his personal laptop after the last day of his employment.

Benny Tan Yong Liang, 34, had the documents due to his position as an assistant environmental manager but had no right to retain them after his employment ended, stated the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau in a press release.

The documents were allegedly in the Singaporean's personal laptop between 20 November last year and 8 March this year.

Court documents did not state what he did with the documents.

Tan will be next in court on 4 January.

If convicted of of retaining documents under the Official Secrets Act, Tan can be jailed up to two years and fined up to $2,000.
