Ex Home and Away star leaves US show after sex scene demand
Australian actress Samara Weaving has reportedly left US TV show SMILF after complaining about the show creator’s approach to filming a sex scene.
According to Variety, the 26-year-old former Home and Away star asked to be released from her contract following an investigation into Frankie Shaw, who allegedly asked Weaving to film a sex scene nude for season two.
Shaw, who also stars on the show, left video monitors on while filming the scene which was supposed to be on a closed set, claims The Hollywood Reporter.
Weaving then reported the incident to Showtime and SAG-AFTRA, and also told co-star Rosie O’Donnell who raised the issue with a Showtime executive.
The publication reports that Weaving also felt “uncomfortable” while filming a similar scene for the first season, where Shaw allegedly asked the Aussie actress to perform a naked sex scene with just 40 minutes notice and despite there being a no nudity clause in her contract.
A source tells The Hollywood Reporter that when Weaving took issue to the request, Shaw “pulled her into a trailer, yanked off her own top and demanded to know why Weaving had a problem being nude when Shaw had no such concerns”.
Shaw’s lawyers have come out and said the star’s breasts were not exposed when she pulled her shirt up, meanwhile Variety reports that no misconduct was found following a HR investigation sparked by Weaving’s complaint.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday morning, Weaving shared a telling quote from Marilyn Monroe.
“A woman knows by intuition, or instinct, what is best for herself,” she wrote.
