Ex-cop Ron Iddles to become Vic watchdog

Former homicide detective and police union boss Ron Iddles will come out of retirement to become Victoria's first community safety trustee.

The position has been created by the state government to oversee law and order reforms and Mr Iddles will report twice a year to Police Minister Lisa Neville and the community, it has been reported.

The Andrews Labor government has come under fire for its handling of crime and community safety, with a spike in the crime rate, youth riots, and a spate of carjackings and home invasions.
