Everything you need to know for a chance to win Powerball's $100m jackpot

The equal largest prize in Powerball’s 23-year history is expected to created huge demand for tickets this week as people storm newsagents for a chance to win $100 million.

The game has jackpotted for the eighth consecutive week after no one claimed last week’s $80m Powerball draw.

“As we move closer to Thursday’s draw, we’re expecting queues out the door in lottery outlets across the nation,” The Lott spokesperson Lauren Cooney said.

Powerball’s most drawn numbers

Since April last year, the most frequently drawn number has been 32 which has been picked 13 times.

Twenty-nine has been picked 12 times, 24, 7 and 25 have each been drawn 11 times.

If you want to throw caution to the wind, 1, 11 and 12 have only been drawn a miserly four times.

Superstition has been thrown out the window for the Powerball number as 13 is one of the numbers picked most frequently at four times.

Three and 19 have also been picked four times each.

A chance at history

If anyone takes out the $100 million prize alone then it would be the largest single winning entry in Australian lottery history.

In August 2018, a young Melbourne man and a Sydney dad each took home $50 million after both sharing the $100 million jackpot.

How do I win?

To have a shot at winning the $100 million you need to take out division one by matching all seven numbers and the Powerball with the draw.

If you’re the only one who matches the numbers in division one then you claim the jackpot of $100 million. If more than one entry has the correct numbers, then you split the jackpot.

Seven numbers without the Powerball will win you division two, while six numbers with the Powerball wins division three.

Where can I pick up a ticket?

You can buy Powerball tickets at most newsagencies around Australia.

If you’re running short on time, they can also be purchased online or via the Lott app.

How do I play?

If you’re not too fussed or don’t have any lucky numbers you might want to consider a QuickPick where digits are randomly generated for your entry.

Otherwise, you can opt for a marked entry allowing you to select the numbers.

Drawing the Powerball number is crucial to claiming division one and to ensure you draw it you can purchase a PowerHit which guarantees the winning Powerball in your entry.

A single PowerHit entry costs $27.

What time does the draw close?

All Powerball entries have to be purchased before Thursday, 8.30pm (AEDT) with the draw played shortly afterwards.

Anyone wanting to watch the draw can catch it on 7TWO just before 10pm with results available online at The Lott afterwards.

What are my chances of winning?

The odds aren’t in your favour unfortunately.

Winning division one has the odds of one in 134,490,400.

Division two is much more likely – that’s only one in just over seven million.

In fact, you’re more likely to be struck by lightning than winning divisions one through to five.
