Erling Haaland: Graeme Souness mocks Dortmund star’s father by claiming son’s skills inherited from mother
Graeme Souness has mocked Erling Haaland’s father by joking that the Borussia Dortmund star’s talent must have come from his mother.
The Norwegian striker hit a double against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday to earn a 2-1 advantage in the last 16 Champions League tie.
With 11 goals in seven games for the Black and Yellows, Souness joked that the 19-year-old’s father Alf-Inge Haaland was merely a “plodder” during his career, so his son’s talent must have come from his mother.
“He’s always on the half turn, he’s not squared up looking at his own goal. He’s really pacey. He’s got that sixth sense that all the top strikers have,” Souness told Virgin Media.
“He’s in the right place at the right time. He looks like he’s quicker than anyone, he’s bigger than anyone.
“He’s got a great chance of being a top man, hasn’t he?
“His mother must have been a good player because his dad was a plodder.”
Haaland’s father featured for Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Manchester City during his career.
A defender or a midfielder, his son has proven to already be more of a match-winner at the highest level.
Haaland will hope to complete the job and add to his 10 Champions League goals this season when Dortmund travel to Paris for the second leg on 11 March.
