'Epic tool' customer berated by restaurant owner over review

A restaurant owner has berated a “moron” customer who left a scathing one-star review claiming he had been denied a table by a “horrible passive-aggressive server”.

The customer, known only as Jeff P, didn’t hold any punches about his less than satisfying trip to Wallfish Bistro in Bristol UK when he unleashed his frustrations on review website TripAdvisor.

“We arrived on a Sunday lunchtime. Asked the chef if they were open, he said yes, we sat at an empty table and waited for the server to arrive,” Jeff wrote.

“When she did, we had that horrible ‘have you booked’ conversation… The server was so rude and made us feel so awkward.

“A table nearby said they were going and we could sit there but we were just left hanging, not knowing if we could stay or not.

“At no time did she ask us to leave, so we had to ask her if we could eat there or not.

“She just glared at us like we had walked into her home uninvited and made the situation even more awful than it needed to be. We will not be returning.”

Management at the eatery wasted no time responding to Jeff’s review labelling him an “epic tool”.

Seldon Curry, who owns the eatery with his wife Liberty, fired off a tweet with a screenshot of the review and even mocked his choice of jacket.

“So this epic tool works fast,” he wrote. “Being open doesn’t in any moron’s world mean that the only available table is yours to put your horror-show cagoules on to.”

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Mr Curry’s version of events didn’t quite match up with how Jeff recalled his experience at the bistro.

“They sat down upon a booked table so my wife asked if they had booked, and they said no.

“So we told them that we didn’t have a table.”

“The chap in question stood up quite comically aggressively and threw his arms in the air and said: ‘So you are telling me to leave?’.

But the restaurant may have bitten off more than they could chew, with social media users questioning their “hasty response”.
