It'll be a snowy commute home on the roads in Windsor-Essex Friday afternoon, and the blanket of snow has Environment Canada issuing a weather advisory for the region.

Five to 10 centimetres of snow could fall, and there could be reduced visibility in areas of heavier snow, Environment Canada cautions. The snow is expected to taper off overnight, when conditions will improve.

The advisory is in place for Windsor, Essex County, Leamington, Sarnia, Petrolia and Chatham-Kent.

Drivers should expect hazardous conditions and drive accordingly, the weather agency said. If visibility is reduced, they should be ready to stop.

Road conditions and other travel information is available through Ontario 511 online and on social media.
