Monk in tears on air over mystery illness

An anxious Sophie Monk has broken down in tears while talking to her radio co-hosts about a mystery illness that's left her stuck in Dubai.

The 2Day FM presenter was on holiday in the United Arab Emirates city when her foot swelled to about twice its size.

The 34-year-old tweeted photo proof of her oversized ankle on Saturday along with the caption: "I mean??? After this pic, I understand why some say I'm a sex symbol!"

Speaking to her co-hosts Jules Lund and Merrick Watts on Monday, Monk described the ordeal as "the worst holiday of my life".

She had been booked to fly home to Sydney and return to work, but is now stranded in Dubai with the condition doctors originally suspected was deep vein thrombosis.

"But (now) they don't know, now I've got a rash on my hands as well," Monk said.

"I've had it elevated the whole time, but now it looks like an elephant. It's not normal, it's not cute.

"And I've got to be honest, my knee's smaller than my ankle. That's not hot. So I could literally wear my necklace as an anklet."

When Monk started crying, a taken-aback Watts and Lund decided to take the chat off air.

"We thought this was going to be funny, but it's not that funny now," Watts said.
