Engagement ring lost moments before proposal found by police

An engagement ring which was lost moments before the proposal has been found in New York and police are searching for the owners.

A man was proposing to his girlfriend in Times Square when he dropped the ring and it fell about 2.4 metres down a utility grate.

The bungle happened just before midnight on Friday, according to the New York Police Department.

The couple asked police for help, but emergency service officers could not immediately find the sparkler.

Eventually, they found it. But the would-be bride and groom left without leaving their names or contact information.

Police are asking the public to help reunite the couple with the ring, posting a video of the couple trying to retrieve it.
