Employment jumps by 70,700 in March

LABOUR FORCE DATA FOR MARCH:

* Unemployment rate - 5.6 per cent versus 5.8 per cent in February

* Underemployment rate (employed people seeking additional work) - 7.9 per cent versus 8.5 per cent

* Employment rose 70,700

* Full-time positions fell 20,800

* Part-time employment rose 91,500

* Participation rate (people working or looking for work): 66.3 per cent versus 66.1 per cent

STATE UNEMPLOYMENT RATES

NSW - 5.4 per cent in March versus 5.7 per cent in February

Vic - 6.1 per cent versus 5.7 per cent

Qld - 5.9 per cent versus 6.2 per cent

SA - 6.3 per cent versus 6.8 per cent

WA - 4.8 per cent versus 6.1 per cent

Tas - 5.9 per cent versus 5.7 per cent

NT - 5.6 per cent versus 5.0 per cent

ACT - 3.4 per cent versus 4.0 per cent
