“Deputies who were going off shift for the day heard the call and joined in the effort, Air One responded to search from the air,” Volusia County police said.

Just as it was beginning to get dark, a call came out over police radio sharing the news that little Luke had been found.

“Luke was found safe about a mile (1.6kms) from home. He was checked out by paramedics, but he had no injuries and was still full of energy,” police said.

Police shared on Facebook bodycam footage of the intense search for Luke that eventually ended in smiles and hugs when he was found covered in mud but unharmed.

“Some HAPPY news to share,” Volusia County police wrote.

Police even managed to find the boy’s pet dog, Calipso, who had wandered off with him.

After a good nights sleep, local police checked in with Luke’s family to make sure he was feeling okay.

“Mum reports he got a good night's sleep last night but he's up and feeling great again today,” police updated.

Police praised the community for their help finding the boy.

“Great job and thank you to EVERYONE who came out and played a role in bringing Luke home safe!”
