Emily Ratajkowski announces pregnancy with powerful essay
Emily Ratajkowski has made the exciting announcement that she is expecting her first child with husband, Sebastian Bear-McClard.
The model revealed the news in a very personal essay for Vogue where she explained why she doesn’t want to reveal the baby’s gender.
“When my husband and I tell friends that I’m pregnant, their first question after ‘Congratulations’ is almost always ‘Do you know what you want?” We like to respond that we won’t know the gender until our child is 18 and that they’ll let us know then,” the 29-year-old wrote.
“Everyone laughs at this. There is a truth to our line, though, one that hints at possibilities that are much more complex than whatever genitalia our child might be born with: the truth that we ultimately have no idea who — rather than what — is growing inside my belly.

The Gone Girl actress continued: “I like the idea of forcing as few gender stereotypes on my child as possible. But no matter how progressive I may hope to be, I understand the desire to know the gender of our fetus; it feels like the first real opportunity to glimpse who they might be.”
Emily went on to say that when she found out she was pregnant she automatically imagined herself having a girl as she’s never thought about having a boy before.
However, she does worry that if she has a daughter she will worry about protecting her from “subconscious and internalized misogyny”.
Emily also relayed her fears about having a boy as well, as she’s been left ‘traumatised’ by white men who “move through the world unaware of their privilege”.
The model showed off her digital Vogue cover on Instagram, writing, “Grateful & growing.”
A bunch of celebrities commented underneath, with Romee Strijd writing: “Congratulationsssss love”.
Kourtney Kardashian commented with a stream of love hearts while Priyanka Chopra wrote: “Congratulations beautiful!!”
