Elon Musk blasted by Ukrainian diplomat: 'F**k off'

It probably isn't very often Elon Musk gets a telling off, but when he does, he gets one powerful enough that could immediately blast the tech billionaire and his next SpaceX mission off to Mars.

A tweet from the SpaceX and Tesla CEO apparently enraged Ukranian ambassador to Germany Andrij Melnyk so much, it prompted a very undiplomatic response on the very public Twitter-sphere.

"F**k off is my very diplomatic answer to you @elonmusk," the envoy told the billionaire in response to a tweet giving unsolicited advice on how the Ukraine should end its war with Russia.

Musk earned the ire of Ukraine's top officials after he tweeted out a poll on Monday asking his 107.7 million followers to vote "yes" or "no" on whether his advice on the Ukraine-Russian war would lead to peace.

In the tweet, the Tesla CEO listed four bullet points, which were:

  • Redo elections of annexed regions under UN supervision. Russia leaves if that is will of the people.

  • Crimea formally part of Russia, as it has been since 1783 (until Khrushchev's mistake).

  • Water supply to Crimea assured.

  • Ukraine remains neutral.

Seemingly unfazed by Melnyk's first angry response, Musk further fuelled the fire by a second tweet on the issue: "This is highly likely to be the outcome in the end – just a question of how many die before then."

The tweet clearly did not impress the outspoken diplomat, who again hit back at Musk.

"The only outcome ist [sic] that now no Ukrainian will EVER buy your f...ing tesla crap. So good luck to you," came Melnyk's reply.

Even Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy chimed in, tweeting his own poll in which he asked his followers: "Which @elonmusk do you like more?" with the options: "One who supports Ukraine" and "One who supports Russia".

Musk later clarified that he "obviously" backed Ukraine, tweeting that SpaceX has spent around $80 million enabling the nation to use its satellite communication system, Starlink, throughout the war, while providing Russia with no such support.

"Trying to retake Crimea will cause massive death, probably fail & risk nuclear war. This would be terrible for Ukraine & Earth," Musk reasoned.

The world's richest man, Musk has confidently weighed in on issues he appears to know little about in the past, including contentious or flat-out wrong statements on the Coronavirus pandemic. At one point, he even stated that his many children were immune to Covid-19.
