Ellen DeGeneres' 'rude' interview with Celine Dion resurfaces

Just one day after Mariah Carey spoke out about her “extremely uncomfortable” interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2008, a video of Celine Dion on the programme just one year earlier is now making the rounds online.

Celine Dion appeared on the show in 2007 to promote her new album, Taking Chances, with Ellen seemingly taking a swipe at the superstar singer over her son, René-Charles Angelil’s long hair.

René-Charles was just six-years-old at the time and Ellen put a family picture of him on the screen, saying to Celine: “It seems like you’re busy with something, ‘cause you’re forgetting to cut your son’s hair.”

Celine didn’t take the comment lying down, asking Ellen: “Do you have a problem with that?”

“No, I don’t have a problem,” Ellen said, continuing: “That is some long hair.”

Celine went on to say that no matter what she does she could never please everyone and said that it was René-Charles’ decision to have his hair long

“When he’s ready, I’ll cut it,” she said.

On YouTube, fans called the interview “rude” and “insensitive” and slammed Ellen for “giving a boy a hard time because his hair doesn’t quite sync with his gender role.”

The resurfaced clip comes just after another episode from 2008 went viral, which showed Ellen asking Mariah Carey if she was expecting a baby with her new husband at the time, Nick Cannon.

When Mariah refused to answer the question, Ellen decided to find out for herself by taking out a bottle of champagne and asking Mariah to drink it.

“Let’s toast to you not being pregnant,” Ellen said on the show, to which Mariah responded: “Why would you toast to that?”

Mariah ended up pretending to take a sip of the champagne, saying it was too early for her to be drinking and it had too many calories in it.

“You’re pregnant!” DeGeneres shouted, with the audience erupting into applause.

Sadly, Mariah Carey ended up having a miscarriage a few weeks after the show went to air.

In an interview with Vulture, Mariah said: “I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath.”

“I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage.

“[There’s] an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented. But what am I supposed to do?”

Mariah went on to say that while she didn’t want to throw Ellen under the bus, she “didn’t enjoy that moment”.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show is currently under investigation following multiple allegations of its “toxic work environment”.

Allegations from current and former employees include claims of being fired after taking medical leave or bereavement days, facing microaggressions and a culture of bullying and favouritism by executive producers.

No specific claims were made against Ellen, although some staff claimed they were told not to speak to the TV presenter and comedian if she was in the office and not to make eye contact with her.
