Could you be eligible for free car rego?

There is good news for hundreds of thousands of Sydney drivers who are about to get their annual vehicle registration for free.

A toll relief scheme by the NSW Government will see anyone paying $1300 on tolls each year in a privately-owned vehicle, equalling about $25 a week, getting their car registration for free from July 1.

Roads Minister Melinda Pavey said paying for tolls was producing “enormous challenges for families”.

Drivers on the M5 will need to opt out of the M5 Cashback Scheme to make the tolls count towards their registration.

Western Sydney drivers will also be big winners with the completion of the Narellan Road upgrade.

The $152 million upgrade spans eight kilometres from Narellan Town Centre to Macarthur Square, cutting commutes by more than seven minutes.

Anyone eligible for toll relief will have receive an email on May 25.
